Plans, billing and free months

What each plan costs and includes, how to change or cancel it, and what changes if you stop paying.

Treader has three plans, and free is a real product, not a nag screen: full planner, live map discovery, flights, collaboration and Scout, capped rather than crippled. There is no trial to forget about, because the free plan has no end date and asks for no card.

Prices in Canadian dollars, checked August 2026 against the pricing page. Paying yearly costs about ten months for twelve, the 17% saving. Discovery includes everything in Pro.

What you get for it

  • Free: as many trips as you like, each up to 7 days, 1 collaborator per trip, 15 Scout messages a month, and joining as many trips as people invite you to.
  • Pro: trips up to 30 days, 3 collaborators per trip, 300 Scout messages a month on a smarter model that inspects each pick more deeply, trip budgets, one-tap day optimize, packing lists built from your route and forecast, live flight status, full place cards with hours, photos and reviews, and routing that knows about tolls, ferries and time zones.
  • Discovery: everything in Pro, plus trips up to 60 days, 10 collaborators per trip, unlimited Scout with live web grounding, and the full Travel Data suite: the document vault, the wallet, and flight compensation claims.

Monthly, yearly, or bought outright

Monthly is the way in and can be dropped any month. Yearly is the same plan at roughly ten months for twelve. Discovery is also sold outright at $299.99 once: nothing renews, no card stays on file, and it pays for itself against three years of the annual plan. It is the only lifetime option, and Pro is deliberately not sold that way.

Moving from monthly to yearly is one tap: Settings under Account, Billing panel, Switch to annual. Going back the other way is not a switch. Turn auto-renew off before the year renews and start again monthly, or open the full billing portal at the bottom of the same panel.

Change your plan

  1. 1 Open the plan comparison from the Treader Pro card in the account menu, from any upgrade prompt, or from Settings under Account.
  2. 2 Pick the plan you want. If you already subscribe, the change swaps your existing subscription rather than starting a second one.
  3. 3 Read the prorated amount. Treader shows what you owe today, credited for the time you already paid for, before anything is charged.
  4. 4 Confirm. The new limits apply immediately, and your bank may ask you to approve the payment.

Cards, invoices and billing details

Settings under Account carries the whole relationship in one Billing panel: Payment method for the cards on file, which one is the default, and adding another; Billing details for the name and address printed on invoices; and Invoices for your payment history with receipt links. Card numbers go straight to Stripe and never touch Treader.

Tip

The last card on an auto-renewing plan cannot be removed. Add the replacement, make it the default, then remove the old one, so a renewal never lands on an empty wallet.

Cancelling and auto-renew

Cancel subscription in the Billing panel turns auto-renew off. Nothing is charged again, and the plan keeps working to the end of the period you already paid for. The same row becomes Resume subscription if you change your mind before that date. No support ticket, no "please call to cancel".

If a payment fails, Stripe retries the card over the following days and your plan keeps working while it does. Make a good card the default in the Payment method row to end the retries early. If they all fail, the account moves to free with everything intact.

What going back to free changes

Nothing is deleted, and nothing is locked. Trips, spots, notes and documents stay yours to open, edit and share. The caps only apply to growth: a 20-day trip still opens and edits on free, it just cannot get any longer; people already on your trips stay; new invites stop at 1 collaborator; Scout drops to 15 messages a month; the vault stops accepting new uploads but still shows what is in it. Subscribing again lifts every cap the same day.

Free months for bringing friends

Your invite link is in the main menu under Refer friends, and in Settings under Account. While you are on a paid plan, a friend who joins on it gets a free month of Pro, and you earn one when they first pay. The full rules, including why a month is sometimes withheld, are in Refer friends and earn free Pro.

Common questions

Is there a free trial of Treader Pro?
No, and that is on purpose. The free plan is the trial: it never expires, needs no card, and plans real trips. A paid plan starts charging the day you choose it.
What currency are Treader prices in?
Canadian dollars. Treader is a Canadian company and every plan is billed in CAD, so a card issued elsewhere is converted by your own bank at their rate.
How do I cancel my Treader subscription?
Settings under Account, Billing panel, Cancel subscription. That turns auto-renew off, your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, and nothing further is charged. You can resume from the same row until that date.
Do I lose my trips if I stop paying?
No. Trips, spots, notes and saved documents stay in your account and stay readable. Free caps limit making things bigger, never keeping what you built.
Are Treader payments refundable?
As a rule no, beyond the refund rights your local consumer law gives you, which the Terms spell out. Cancelling never costs anything extra, because your plan runs to the end of the period you already paid for. If something was charged in error, write to support@treader.ca.
When do my Scout messages reset?
On the first of each calendar month. Settings under Account shows the count and what is left of it.
Does everyone on a trip need to pay?
No. Limits that belong to the trip, its length and how many people can join, follow the owner plan. Limits that belong to a person, their Scout messages and the detail on their place cards, follow their own plan.
How many trips can I have on Treader?
As many as you like on every plan, up to a flat ceiling of 50 per account that exists to stop spam rather than to sell an upgrade. Trips in the trash do not count against it.
Can I buy Treader Pro for life?
No. Only Discovery is sold outright, at $299.99 once. Pro is the recurring plan that funds the product, so it stays a subscription.
What happens to my subscription if I delete my account?
Cancel first. Deleting an account removes your data, and the cancel switch in the Billing panel is what stops the billing. See Export or delete your account.

Tip

Nothing here is held hostage. You can export everything you have put into Treader at any time, on any plan, from Settings under Data.
