Road trip planner
Plan a road trip with stops, days and gas estimates
Treader is a free group trip planner that puts every stop on one live map and checks the plan against sunset and public holidays on your dates. Made in Canada.
A road trip is a chain of days, not a list of pins. Put every day on one map with the driving route and time between stops. Planning the route is free; a fuel estimate for each leg comes with Pro.
Start with where the drive goes
Put in where the drive starts and ends, and see the distance, the driving time and the hours a day before you sign up. Saving makes it a trip, in a free account if you have none. Then add the stops day by day and the route draws between them, with the driving time for each leg.

Every day on one map
Lay stops into days and the route draws itself, with the driving time for each leg. Drag a stop to another day and the plan reflows. That is free on every plan. On Pro, one tap reorders a day’s stops into the shortest path.

Gas estimates: what is free and what is Pro
Anyone can work out what a drive will cost in fuel with the free gas cost calculator: the distance or a route, your car’s consumption and the price you expect. Inside a trip, every plan shows the driving distance and time for each leg, and on long legs the last fuel or charging stop before a long stretch without one. Pro adds a fuel plan: tell it what you drive and it estimates fuel for every driving leg from your car’s consumption and a fuel price you can change. In the US that price starts from a weekly regional average; elsewhere it starts from a typical price you should check. Pro is $4.99 CAD a month.

Camp nights and trail days belong in the plan
The map knows campgrounds, trailheads and viewpoints, not just restaurants and museums. A campground added to a day becomes a camp night, with its own panel for the booking, the facilities and the drive in before dark. A hike drops into a day as the route itself: import a GPX or KML file and the day shows the trail, its distance and climb, and a time estimate worked out from both.
- Campgrounds and trailheads as map categories on every plan
- GPX and KML import free on every plan
- Sold out? On Discovery a camp stop at a US federal campground watches recreation.gov for an opening and sends a push and an email with the booking link

The plan keeps working from the passenger seat
Treader installs to your phone from the browser. A Today view shows what is now, what is next, and how far the drive is. Trip check keeps one list of what could still go wrong, from a day that runs past dark to a night with no campsite. Every plan opens your trips read-only where there is no signal, in the browser where you last edited them. On Pro, the map around every stop and along the roads between them is saved on the phone too, so it still draws.
05
What each plan covers
Free trips run up to 7 days, which covers most long weekends and week-long loops. Money tools sit on Pro: the fuel plan, a trip budget with costs on stops, and the split between the people in the car.
- Free: up to 50 trips of up to 7 days, the route and drive times, camp nights, GPX and KML import, 1 invited editor per trip
- Pro, $4.99 CAD a month: trips up to 30 days, fuel estimates for each leg, trip budget and cost split, one-tap shortest order for a day, the offline map, 3 editors per trip
- Discovery: trips up to 60 days, the campground watch, 10 editors per trip

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What people ask before they plan a first trip. The docs go further.
Read the docs01 Does Treader calculate gas costs?
Yes, two ways. The free gas cost calculator works out one drive from the distance or a route, your car’s consumption and the price you expect, split per person. On Pro, the fuel plan estimates fuel for each driving leg of a trip from your vehicle’s consumption and a fuel price you can edit. Both are estimates, not pump prices: in the US the fuel plan’s price starts from a weekly regional average, elsewhere from a typical price.
02 Can my co-drivers edit the plan?
Yes, live. The host’s plan sets how many can edit: 1 invited editor on Free, 3 on Pro, 10 on Discovery. Everyone else can follow along as a viewer, and joining someone else’s trip is free on every plan. A change log records who moved what.
03 Does it work without cell service?
The app installs to your phone from the browser, and every plan opens your trips read-only where there is no signal, in the browser where you last edited them. Pro also saves the trip map on the phone, so the map still draws.
04 Can Treader tell me when a sold-out campground has an opening?
Yes, on Discovery, for campgrounds booked through recreation.gov. Add the campground to a day, press Watch for an opening in its Camp night panel, and Treader checks every half hour and sends a push and an email with the booking link when a night frees up. It never books for you.
05 Can I plan a route that is longer than a week?
Free trips run up to 7 days. Pro raises that to 30 days and Discovery to 60. Every plan holds the same number of trips; only the length changes.
Put the whole drive on one map.
Days, stops, drive times and camp nights in one place, free for trips up to 7 days. Per-leg fuel estimates on Pro.
