Export or delete your account
Download everything Treader holds for you as one file, and how to delete the account for good.
Both live in Settings under Data, on every plan including free. One is a download you can take anywhere, the other is permanent.
Export your data
Export my data builds one JSON file, treader-export.json, holding your profile, the trips you own, your saved spots and moments, your follows, and your Travel Data records, claims and document entries. Direct messages are left out because a conversation belongs to two people, and uploaded files export as their entries rather than the files themselves. Save the photos and documents you care about from where they live before you leave.
Delete your account
The danger zone at the bottom of the same tab deletes the account for good. You type DELETE to confirm, and it happens immediately. There is no grace period and no undo, so export first if you want a copy.
- 1 Cancel your subscription first, in Settings under Account. Deleting an account does not cancel billing.
- 2 Export your data if you want to keep it.
- 3 Tell anyone planning with you. Trips you own go with the account, for everyone on them, and there is no way to hand a trip over first.
- 4 Open Settings under Data, type DELETE in the danger zone, and confirm.
Deletion takes your profile and handle, the trips you own with their days, notes and chat, your spots and moments, your follows, your Travel Data, and your membership of other people trips. Public trip pages you had published stop resolving. Messages you sent to other people are removed with the account.
Common questions
- Does deleting my Treader account cancel my subscription?
- No. Cancel the subscription first in Settings under Account, then delete. Billing is held at Stripe and the account deletion does not reach it.
- Can a deleted account be recovered?
- No. The delete is immediate and permanent, which is why it asks you to type DELETE. Export your data first if you might want it later.
- What happens to trips I share with other people?
- Trips you own are deleted for everyone on them, and trips owned by others simply lose you as a member. There is no ownership handover, so if the group needs the plan, ask someone else to rebuild it before you go.
- Are my messages included in the export?
- No. Direct messages and trip chat are left out because they belong to both sides of the conversation. Everything else you created is in the file.
