Find your way around the Treader planner

Where the main menu, the right-side dock, map styles and keyboard shortcuts live, and why a new free account starts with a quieter planner.

Treader's planner is two views of one plan: the itinerary panel lists your days, the live map draws them, and each follows the other. The top bar carries the trip picker, a day selector, search, Share and your avatar. The main menu, opened from the wordmark or the menu button, groups the rest into three sections: Plan (Planner, My Trips, Notes), Together (Messages, Browse) and You (Travel Data, Settings). How Treader works covers what each piece does.

The right-side dock

A dock on the right holds three tabs: Chat opens Scout for the day you have open; Trip Chat is a thread for the trip's people, always listed, and opens once the trip is saved; Map Settings switches the basemap between Standard, Muted, Satellite and Terrain and what the map shows. Hide panel folds the dock away.

Why some buttons appear later

On a computer, a brand-new free account starts quiet: search, Share and your avatar up top, Scout folded behind an edge tab. Browse, Messages, notifications, Today, the Trip hub and the Map | Board switch join once one of four things happens: a trip of your own reaches 3 stops (flights and other journeys aside), you join a trip shared with you, your account turns a week old with a real trip in it, or you are on Pro or Discovery, which start with everything showing. Once they appear, they stay.

Getting around by keyboard

Cmd-K, or Ctrl-K on Windows, opens a command palette from anywhere, even inside a text field. A few single-key shortcuts work too, only on the planner and never while you're typing:

Command palette ⌘K / Ctrl-K
Focus mode (planner) F
Toggle the board (planner) B
Toggle the itinerary panel [
Toggle the Scout dock ]
Open the command palette ?
Move through palette results ↑ ↓
Run the highlighted command ↵
Close the palette or dialog Esc

Tip

Not seeing Browse, Messages, Today or the Trip hub is not a bug, and nothing is locked. The main menu still reaches Browse and Messages, Cmd-K reaches all of them and the board, and phones keep Today, the Trip hub and notifications in view from the start, since there's no Cmd-K there.

The guided tours walk this same layout live.
